I have made available here on my website a mirror for a significant number of Roms to install on the Adam, including the Stock images and updates. I just decided it might make sense to post their links on my website, since I am mirroring them here. clicking on the name of the mod will take you to the forum on tabletroms.com where the developer is posting updates and answering questions. Please click the links for installation instructions, support, and to check for newer versions, I cannot guarantee I have the newest updates, but I will try. I have not virus scanned any of these, I have not unpacked/repacked any of these, the only files I even renamed were ones with the default name “update.zip” as you cannot have 20 files called update.zip and expect your hair not to fall out! The only promise I can give is that I won’t take these files down unless the developers ask me to do so! Any changes I might make for my own use will never be posted on this page, I will make a separate post if I decide to ever do that, to avoid confusion.
Again, this is just a mirror location, not the official or original site for any of these Roms. Nor am I affiliated with any of the developers, besides being a poster on some of the same forums. Just trying to help preserve the history of these Roms, and provide an additional location to gain access to them.
First off I want to post this link to TabletRoms.com and their page for working on Honeycomb on the Notion Ink Adam. If anyone reading this has any Kernel development experience, they need just a bit of help and the Rom will be completely working for everyone! So go here to help out if you can.

note on this one, I just put my device in airplane mode. changed it from losing 36% in 8 hours of standby to losing 24% in 8 hours on standby (both EdenX 2.4 and Beast Rom 2.2 and 2.2.1), so use it if you want to, some people have reported side effects.

Notion Ink Adam Stock Roms and Updates
These are the NI Roms that I have gotten from the NIH website (mostly the unbricking website, except the one that was linked to XDA, I think, or maybe that was the Adam Stock Apps… I get confused, a lot…). I have posted them for safe keeping in case other sources disappear, and to make they are available when/if I need them. For the Honeycomb Roms, I have started numbering them 1.0, 1.1… this is not any official numbering and I think I missed one, we will call that one 0.90 if I ever find it/decide to put it up here.

This past weekend I switch from running EdenX Rom to The Beast Rom v2.2, as I was not even 70% happy with EdenX, although it was much better than stock Eden! It still left me wanting more! I just felt that there was an issue with the Eden UI that was causing me problems and I really wanted to just get away from it entirely. (I just had this weird deja vu moment where I kind of remember that I never added reference links in my previous posts… it happens a lot, I’ll sort through it this weekend maybe as it looks like I’ll have some time then.) With a new release of Beast I decided to go for it! although, my original pla nwas to not try beast until after I did Utopia and the performance Rom, as I have been thinking that “Once I go Beast, I’ll never go back!” But I couldn’t resist anyway.
well first things first, I noticed after flashing that my boot logo for Notion Ink changed to White text on Black, instead of Black text on White. (according to what I have read most people say white on black is the way it has always been, I’ll put some pics up of both) I also was immediately stuck in a boot loop, and yes I cleared my data cache and user data before flashing, getting out of the loop required me to hold down the power button for a good 10-15 seconds, if I let go too early it would loop again. I also flashed from the internal SD card. Total flashing time was about 3 minutes I think; although flashing EdenX was almost half the time. I went back into recovery mode and I saw that my Notion Ink bootup logo was back to Black on White! Cleared my data caches and user cache again, rebooted and I was greeted with a lock screen showing the beast background! (after a really long bootup, which is normal on first boot with a new rom)
Titanium backup and I are not the best of friends, and as such I spent the next hour or so reinstalling my apps, but not installing the apps I did not want from the old rom, as somehow I managed to do a all rom batch backup the first time I ran it, so every app from EdenX as backed up and I could never get that to work again! So I have been doing my backups and restores 1 app at a time, which isn’t that bad, since I don’t actively use, update, or add data to 70% of the installed apps on my device anyway. I tend to get a couple of apps that I spend a huge amount of time in and stick to them for weeks before moving on to something else.
Then it was off to testing apps, of course the first thing I did was go through apps that I used the most, and those that failed to run on EdenX (again I think it was a UI issue, as they would run, then disappear and I never figured out in Eden or EdenX how to do the hold home for 3 seconds to get a list of the last 8 apps you ran. Which I was sure would get e right back to the ones that kept “disappearing” and I would be able to use them. I had a couple of apps that would not work, until I turned on/off my wifi, sometimes several times, and it did not always matter if the wifi was on or off for most of the apps, just started working after I toggled it, sometimes… But to tell the truth, the last straw with EdenX was that Gmail would never show me my new emails, it would say there were (example) 36 new messages in label “inbox” but when I opened that label the newest email it would show me would be from (example) 3 days ago, even after multiple refreshes. Even worse, if I cleared through my emails on my HTC Evo, Gmail on the Adam would update very quickly to show the changes (except it still would not show me the new messages. After 2 weeks of this I finally gave up and that is why I moved to Beast, if I cannot check my email regularly then the Adam would have been on Craig’s List (actually I did try to post it, I got so fed up with issues trying to just use it, but the posting got flagged for violation of terms and they asked me to verify my account by phone, so I cancelled the posting).
Gmail is working great, my Bank of America App is working fine as well (both had issues in Eden and EdenX and I use them more than 7 times per week each), it did take me 7 tries to get The Akinator to launch, but after that it worked fine (had my wifi off, I believe was the cause and the app requires inet access). I’ve actually been spending a lot of time playing pirates and traders lately, although the graphics are very low quality, and stretch based off the Adam’s orientation (yes the game rotates if you tilt while playing, on all 4 sides!), it also could use several additional features, but is still a fun play with promised updates coming!
(sorry to do this again, but I have been sitting on this post for 5 days now. I’ll get around to the links, I swear!)
So, I’ve been messing around with my Adam for a while now and have noticed some things, many people have already noticed these things; however I am new to tablets and all my Android devices are still stock non-rooted (can’t afford to replace them if I screw it up!), as a List, currently in my home are an HTC Evo, and HTC Evo Shift, a Samsung Moment, and my Notion Ink Adam.
Things I have noticed, some are specific to the Adam, I think…
- most apps are written for really tiny resolution screens! I cannot even imagine it! The Adam is not super high res to begin with! The two worst apps I have seen so far are Gem Miner and Fruit Ninja! Makes me wonder if people realize that there are cell phones with greater than 900×500 resolution! (see the Meizu M9 which has a 3.5″ 640×960 display) These apps seem to be written for 320×240 pixel displays
- I believe my Notion Ink Adam had a faulty OS install
- When trying to switch to the Pixel Qi mode, it does switch, but also locks the screen and immediately goes to sleep… If I figure out that I am doing it wrong, you may see me demonstrating the correct way on YouTube in the near future, but right now the only way I know how is to quickly press and release the power button and the display goes B&W and then locks and then shuts off, in about 2.5 seconds. I tried getting the Pixel Qi switch app, but I couldn’t figure out how to use it before I nuked the stock Rom! I did take my Adam out in the sun and I was able to see it just the same (very sunny and direct on the screen) as when I was standing in side just seconds before (yes it was still in color when outside), so the auto-brightness must help a lot! Ok, I am a retard, apparently the PQi change button is a long press on the search button (go figure! I swear Rohan did it with a touch to the power switch in the videos), it works great, cannot believe I was standing in direct bright sunlight without using the PQi and could see the screen fine! I’ll have to test that again…
- I was not able to utilize any widgets, or airplane mode
- Eden Leaves would close themselves if I entered a full screen app and then exited that app by pressing the home key, all the leaves would close, after installing another app that could work as a home screen (Android Mate), anytime I pressed the home key and selected the Eden home screen, all Leaves would be closed.
- I’ve installed the Clockwork Mod, quick, easy, painless. it was the first time I have messed with an Android device in any way other than installing apps! I made a backup of my installation and that was about it! About 36 hours later I nuked my data and cache off the device, then formatted my internal SD, as it still had stuff on it, and restored from the restore partition.
- I then went to install EdenX, and when I went to shutdown I noticed I had an option to use airplane mode! maybe that would have helped with the cell standby eating >73% of my battery… who knows, didn’t stick around long enough to figure it out. I did try to initiate a change to the Pixel Qi display, but no dice (this was before I figured out how to do it right).
- well, Now I am waiting on EdenX to install, not looking good… I verified that Clockwork was gone, copied the EdenX files to the internal SD, and have been sitting staring at the little 3D’ish android guy for at least 10 minutes if not 25, I think it only took 3 – 5 minutes to restore stock… ok I’ve waited an hour, still the same. Pressing home took me back to the menu where it said failed to mount sd, ok, so I am a dumbass, I have only used the Clockwork mod when in recovery mode before, so I did not realize I needed to use the power button to start the process… well actually I forgot, I did read that part of the instructions. Again it took about 3.5 minutes and there was an image of a box with an arrow coming out of it. I’ll try and get a pick next time.
- The pretty white border around the Adam (shown also in red online, but not available) appears to be a sticker, thinner than electrical tape. Or it has a clear “sticker” over it, as there appears to be a bubble on the corners (maybe it is a shipping protection cover, but I am not willing to try and remove it!)
- Good news, my Adam camera does “lock” there is a definitive click when it reaches the full front or rear position and it takes a minor amount of effort to move it again.
- There is a “back” button on the right hand side of the device (in landscape mode), not really sure why, but I think it may come in handy once I get the thing setup the way I want it!
- The screen protector makes only a small difference in the glare, I don’t really think it is matte, not at all what was shown by Rohan on the notionink.wordpress.com blog. Oh and I recommend installing it sideways (landscape instead of portrait top down), as it will be easier to see if you are putting it on crooked! $10 to get another, just in case. ****update – Tactus has lowered their price to just $5 to get a replacement protector (although, since it is on Amazon.com shipping is $6.75)
I am loving EdenX, although it kept somethings from the Stock Rom I was not crazy about (some of the preinstalled apps, the crappy notification bar…), it runs much better, more responsive to touch, faster, allows widgets, multiple home screens, a real app launcher, and is much closer to what I was expecting out of the Box. I was even able to install my previously purchased Android Apps from the Android market, yes EdenX provides the Android market. Not sure when I’ll get around to trying another Rom, but for now, I am happy with EdenX! Only change I need to make is to disable the Cell Standby, that sucker is eating up >73% of my battery…
