I updated the header to get rid of the silly “Home” link, which just takes you here, thereby being a duplicate link, and causing all the pages to not appear in the list. Everything is there now; however I did have to change “Bits of Random Knowledge” to “Random Knowledge” and “Life Happenings” to “Life Happens” in order to get it all to fit. I am ok with the first change, not happy about the second, I’ll probably try to put that back here in a second and then I’ll cross this part out.
This does not affect links at all. The pages are all still stored in the same place and with the same file names as they used to be. OK, adding the “ing” back didn’t disrupt the spacing, so now I am happy. Of course nothing ever does what it is supposed to, I have now lost my spacing between posts on this page… In fact after checking the html code, I have lost all formatting codes on my page, granted I have not learned any new html since 1996-1998 era, but it should still work! right, now not even the buttons on the posting toolbar stay when I save (ie strikeout/bold/italics). This should not be! it was working before, I have not changed and WordPress settings, why would it just stop working? I may just have to manually edit the page on the server and just not edit it in WP anymore, which is stupid. Apparently changing from WYSIWYG mode (“What You See Is What You Get” for those younger people reading here), which is called “Visual” in WP, to HTML mode (you better know that one…) or vice-versa automatically deletes any HTML code you might have on your ENTIRE page/post. This is apparently also considered a feature by some idiots over at WordPress.org. (Hello stupid, boy I hope you read this too, they even include a button on the tool bar labeled “remove formatting” which I will take for granted that it does the same thing (not clicking that one, no way jose!). Ok, this time I swear I did not go to HTML mode, and I STILL lost all formatting after updating the page! but at least the HTML links stuck around!?!? I have found several posts on the WP forums about this issue, but none have valid solutions for my problem, most date 3-5 years ago, some are newer.
Well, I have not gotten to any computer stuff lately, but I have made some significant changes to the website. We have a new theme, I finally found a way to put posts on different pages, although so far I can only put the post titles in a list, working on getting the full post, or at least a description showing, and I will convert all of these welcome messages to posts. That should decrease the page length significantly and help loading times on mobile devices (although I think it truncates them already, I have not checked lately and I do not even know if the new Theme works on mobile devices!! As I have my phone set to pretend to be a desktop computer).
Still no images in the Android Apps section, but I’ve gotten a couple more up and started using a “template” so each page is at least similar looking, including links to AppBrain, and the Android Market, for both the free and paid versions of the apps. I’ve created a new page for Books, which currently has absolutely nothing on it. I’ll try and add some posts there in a couple weeks when I get a significant number of apps added to the apps page. Also, now that I can if not show posts on multiple pages, at least list them, I’ll see about getting some hardware pages up with things I own, or found interesting, or maybe just references to other site’s who have written articles on a particular item.We shall see how that goes, but don’t count on it any time soon, I think I have more than enough to keep me busy.
One last thing for tonight, ok, make that three… I will be adding another season or two of House quotes!!! I am looking forward to seeing some new ones pop up when I am constantly refreshing the pages to see how something I just did changed a page. And I just wanted to say I have been running completely in Ubuntu 10.10 x64 on my home machine for 7 days now, I only booted into Windows once, when I could not get a VM file to transfer off my NTFS partition (I lost the file in the end, but I’ll post about that later). And last thing tonight, I’ve gotten back around to trying to do something productive with my music collection. I started out with 600 CD’s and who knows how many tapes, and converted them all to digital media, plus what I’ve purchased since then (currently using amazon.com mp3 store, but I’ve been around to a few places). I currently have enough music to listen for 87 days without repeating a track (except for duplicates, and let me tell you, I have 9 copies of some tracks, either from multiple albums/live shows, or just copying issues when organizing my collection (sometimes I get copies instead of moving…) so in reality, it is probably closer to 30-40 days…
I have updated about 6 or 7 plugins so there may be some changed/new functionality…
I added a background image for the redirect page, so you don’t have to look at a white page when coming to visit…
fixed the login page.
fixed the mobile browser version, the old one looked like a plain text document, now it has some remenants of the full version’s theme.
deleted the links page, and added them on as a widget instead
still cannot get the widget spacing to look good. I feel like they are all crunched together like that weird piece in any cereal called “bunches”, and they need… something to visually change between them, so you can tell where one starts and the other ends… tried editing the theme’s .php files, but there is one line that calls “dynamic_sidebar” and I do not have a “dynamic_sidebar” file to edit. they all load from that 1 line of code. I even tried putting a “text” widget between each other widget, but if they are blank it does not display anything (even tried spacing down a few lines and adding a row of dashes, it still does not display the blank spaces…)
I also still cannot get into Hotmail via IE8, works fine in chrome, and all other microsoft websites are working as normal. it continues to bounce between http://login.live.com….. and https://login.live.com….. over and over again
